The Eastern New Mexico University’s annual Fall Fine Arts Events calendar includes faculty and guest recitals, plays, art shows and concerts.
“I think this is probably the fullest calendar we’ve had booked for fall in a while,” said Joyce Stagg, secretary for the dean of the fine arts department at ENMU.
New this season is Tres Vidas, which celebrates the lives of three Latin American women, Stagg said.
Returning for the second year is the Harmony for Humanity concert. The concert is one of several held across the United States in honor of Daniel Pearl, a journalist and musician who was killed by al-Qaida, said Tamara Raatz, associate professor of music at ENMU.
“We found that last year’s event was really successful. It just got people to talking about the role of arts in our society,” Raatz said.
According to the Daniel Pearl Foundation Web site (www.danielpearl.org), the purpose of the worldwide event is to use the power of music to promote tolerance and inspire respect for differences.
The annual event is typically held on Pearl’s birthday, Oct. 10, the Web site reported.
“The concert is going to feature a lot of works from different time periods,” Raatz said.
